FALL 2025 FASHION: GOTHIC MINIMALISM AND THE SPIRIT OF ‘THE THORN BIRDS’

Sometimes it feels like fashion and the soul exist in two separate universes. One thrives on surface, the other on depth. One dazzles; the other reflects. And yet, every once in a while, they cross paths—and when they do, something quietly profound happens.

That’s exactly how I felt looking at the Fall 2025 collections, where Vogue Runway drew a surprising parallel to Father Ralph de Bricassart from The Thorn Birds. A priest as a fashion reference? It’s unexpected, even strange. And that’s precisely what makes it so compelling.

Black, white, and pink—not bubblegum pink, but something dustier, sadder, like a memory left out in the rain. There’s a model in a black suit, adorned with a delicate pink lace collar, who looks less like a trendsetter and more like he’s walked out of a forgotten novel. It’s not a look—it’s a sentiment. Clothing as prayer. Or perhaps as a secret.

This is fashion turning inward. Moving beyond sleek minimalism toward something more emotional, even symbolic. It’s not just about what we wear—it’s about what we carry within. Maybe we’re all tired of excess: the noise, the saturation, the constant performance. Maybe, just maybe, we’re longing for stillness.

Let me be clear: fashion hasn’t suddenly become spiritual. But it’s definitely become more introspective. As if designers—and perhaps we, too—are asking, “Who am I beneath the fabric?”

And that’s what struck me the most. Suddenly, clothes aren’t just worn. They’re experienced. They’re thought. They become code—not just of style, but of existence. Like a clerical collar or a monastic robe, speaking volumes through silence.

Can fashion be a kind of confession? Or has it always been?
